Did Mallika Dua Just Take A Dig At Akshay Kumar-Twinkle Khanna's Padman Challenge?

Akshay Kumar‘s Padman is all set to release on February 9. This is the first time that Twinkle Khanna will be producing a film. Based on the life of social entrepreneur, Arunachalam Muruganantham, who invented a machine to manufacture low-cost sanitary pads in order to make it easily available and accessible to women who couldn’t afford to buy it, the film aims at removing the stigma associated with the subject of menstruation in the country as well as abroad. As a way to publicise the film and increase the buzz around the film, the makers and the actors have taken up a challenge, where in one needs to click a pic with a sanitary pad in hand and share it on social media by tagging as many people one wants to take up the challenge. Until now, actors like Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aditi Rao Hydari, Diana Penty, Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma and even sports personalities like PV Sindhu among others have posed with a pad to support the film.

With actors, dignitaries and other renowned personalities taking up the challenge everyday, our social media timelines are almost flooded with these posts. Needless to say, enough buzz has been created for Padman ahead of its release, but many would argue what social message does the exercise serve? How would it make a woman feel empowered? Anyway, while we’re still pondering over it, comedienne and influencer, Mallika Dua, through a series of insta stories, has taken a dig at Akshay Kumar-Twinkle Khanna’s Padman Challenge. Take a look at the screenshots below.

For the uniniated, Akshay Kumar had passed an inappropriate comment on Mallika Dua on his show, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, where he said,  “Mallika ji aap bell ko bajao, main apko bajata hoon,” which was followed by outrage from Mallika’s father and senior journalist Vinod Dua. Following that, Mallika penned an open letter on how this issue isn’t about Akshay Kumar but for every big shot male who makes their female co-workers feel looked down upon. In response to this, Twitter demanded a response from Akshay’s wife Twinkle Khanna, who refused to be dragged into the debate, and posted jokes on Mallika and her father. However, in the end, Twinkle apologised to the comedienne in an open letter.
