Filmmaker Dinesh Vijan‘s latest offering – Angrezi Medium has not performed well at the Box Office amid the coronavirus outbreak in India. Just a day before the release of the film, the Delhi government announced a total shutdown of cinema halls and the decision was followed by the authorities in Mumbai, Kerala, J&K and other parts of the country. This partial lockdown in India badly affected the Irrfan Khan starrer and the film went on to collect a single-digit figure of Rs 4.03 crore at the Box Office on its opening day. Dinesh talked about the same performance and how he couldn’t do anything to stop the film’s release amid the trying times despite knowing that the collections will be impacted. Also Read - Radhika Madan Gets 'Teary-Eyed' as Amitabh Bachchan Sends Handwritten Note Praising Her Performance in Angrezi Medium

The filmmaker talked to Mumbai Mirror in his latest interview and said the Delhi government announced the decision on Thursday and the film had already released in the UAE-GCC belt by then. Dinesh said it was totally impossible to stop the release when the film had already hit the screens outside India. The producer added that to make a decision as big as deferring the release date of a film, the information should be out well in advance. He was quoted saying, “We had no option as the film had already opened in the UAE-GCC market on Thursday when the chief minister of Delhi (Arvind Kejriwal) announced the shutdown of theatres later in the day. Had we known three-four days ago that this would happen, we might have had time to rethink the release, but on Thursday, it was too late to pull back.” Also Read - Angrezi Medium Box Office Day 1: Irrfan Starrer Opens at Rs 4 cr, Worst Hit by Coronavirus Scare

However, Dinesh mentioned that Irrfan had no qualms with the release. The producer said he had a word with the actor about the issue and he was glad that people who watched it had good things to say. The chief of Maddock Films said Irrfan is ‘beyond all this’.

After the government’s announcement, the team of Sooryavanshi and Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar also pushed the release dates of their films indefinitely. Several production houses stopped the shooting of their films and those who are still continuing with the work, are following strict WHO guidelines on the sets.
