You loved her in Finding Fanny and definitely noticed her beauty and the cleavage-revealing top she wears for most part of the movie. But did you take a close-up shot of Deepika Padukone in the movie theatre and tweet it to skin-hungry sleazeballs on Twitter? Sure you didn’t. This received a sharp and blunt response from the star herself. Also Read - Honey Singh Opens Up About 'Dark Phase' Battling Bipolar Disorder, Says 'Deepika, SRK Supported Me'

Deepika Padukone tweeted in reaction, “Supposedly India’s ‘LEADING’ newspaper and this is ‘NEWS’!!??” stirring up a controversy. “YES!I am a Woman. I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!??” she further asked, adding, “Don’t talk about Woman’s Empowerment when YOU don’t know how to RESPECT Women!”
The Times of India replied sheepishly to Deepika, saying, “It’s a compliment! You look so great that we want to make sure everyone knew! :).”
Bollywood support for Deepika Padukone
Deepika has received support not just from Twitter users but also from other Bollywood actresses like Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Ileana D’Cruz, Huma Qureshi, Neetu Chandra and Nimrat Kaur. Male celebs like Farhan Akhtar, Boman Irani, Homi Adajania and Ritesh Sidhwani too have jumped in to support her. Deepika’s Happy New Year co-star Shah Rukh Khan – the one who launched her in Bollywood with Om Shanti Om – also gave his reaction at the Happy New Year music launch.
‘Why does Deepika Padukone wear revealing clothes?’
The debate going on as far as this controversy goes is that if Deepika Padukone can do item songs and wear revealing clothes in her movies then she has no right to speak up against the media that puts up her revealing pictures from events and parties. But saying that is like saying ‘if a woman is wearing short dresses and walking down the road, she is inviting rape’.
What TOI’s rivals are saying:
Rival newspapers are having a ball playing on the Twitter squabble of The Times of India with Deepika Padukone. A debate on NDTV also said that if Deepika has spoken up against the media after the disgusting tweet, she should also speak up about the objectification of women by the people she chose to work with in Bollywood – which the debater assumes are sleazy producers and directors.
The timing of TOI Entertainment‘s tweet and Deepika Padukone’s reaction:
Hot pictures of actresses are always on the Internet and are also morphed by some dirty minds on porn sites. While that might not be the right thing to do, why did TOI Entertainment tweet the pictures now? And why has Deepika Padukone chosen to react now? Why has the Deepika Padukone cleavage controversy arisen during the release of her film Finding Fanny and the promotions of her film Happy New Year?
Our verdict on the ‘dirty picture’:
The media is adept at putting up stories with hot pictures and cleavage, midriff and leg show of actresses, and shirtless photos of hunky actors and this is nothing new. But that cannot be the reason for the same being right or correct. There definitely has to be a better way to put the thing across rather than the disgusting way TOI Entertainment put it on Twitter.
We can understand publishing pictures of hot magazine covers and item songs that actresses have knowingly shot for. But taking close-ups of an actress when she is at an event, waiting for her to bend down or sit uncomfortably to take that dirty shot – is a strict No-No! What do you think?
