For a newspaper that has earned repute for being credible with its reporting and reportage, New York Times has brought upon itself disgrace of unimaginable proportions. After Tanmay Bhat ridiculed India’s Bharat Ratna–Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar–we did not expect this from New York Times! In an article the aforementioned newspaper mentioned India’s Nightingale, a legend, Lata Mangeshkar a so-called Playback singer! Agreed, that the Uncle Sam’s world revolves only around itself and its residence show the slightest regard to the eastern part of the world and the newmakers it has! Agreed they don’t play cricket and Bollywood is just a song and dance routine for them, but a little research wouldn’t have harmed before keying in those disgraceful words about Lata Mangeshkar. For someone who has been right at the top of her game for more than 70-80 years now, For someone who has over 30,000 songs to her credit in over 70 languages, Mangeshkar is God for India and it populi. Looks like the writers of this article share the same sensibilities as that of Bhat, who can go to any length to ensure that their noises are heard without much substance or style to speak of! We are waiting to see now the kind of reaction this piece of New York Times would evoke from the industry as indeed from the credible voices from the globe over!
