In a late-night call on Sunday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reached out to Disha Patani’s father, Jagdish Singh Patani, following the firing outside their Bareilly home. The Chief Minister extended his condolences and assured the family that the government was fully committed to their safety.

Jagdish Patani, a retired deputy superintendent of police, later confirmed the call through a video statement. “Late at night, I received a call from the Honourable Chief Minister. He offered his condolences to my entire family and said that the whole state stands with us. The Chief Minister assured that there will be no negligence whatsoever in ensuring our security,” he said.

The CM also promised that the culprits would not escape justice. “They will be found even from the depths of the earth,” Patani quoted him as saying.

Who else contacted the family?

Before the CM’s call, his officer on special duty (OSD), Rajbhushan Singh, also reached out to the family. He emphasised that the government would not compromise on safety. “The responsibility for your family’s safety rests with the government,” he reportedly told them.

How did the firing incident unfold?

According to the police complaint, the shocking incident took place around 3:30 am on September 12. Two unidentified men on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire outside the Patani residence.

Hearing the gunshots, Jagdish Patani rushed to the balcony and spotted the attackers. When he confronted them, one of the assailants fired directly at him. Fortunately, he managed to duck and escaped unhurt.

Was the attack linked to gangsters?

Shortly after the incident, a social media post surfaced, allegedly linked to gangster Goldy Brar’s associates. The post claimed responsibility for the firing. However, the account was deleted the following morning, raising further suspicion.

Police officials are investigating the possible gang connection and tracking the origins of the post.

What action has been taken by the police?

Following the complaint, Bareilly police registered a case of attempted murder against the unidentified assailants. Security around the Patani residence has been tightened, with armed personnel stationed in and around the house.

Senior police officers have assured that CCTV footage and digital trails are being examined to identify the attackers.
