Doordarshan is all set to make staying at home more enjoyable for people during the lockdown by bringing its Golden Era shows back on television. Rajan Waghdhare’s rib-tickling comedy Shriman Shrimati starring Jatin Kanakia, Reema Lagoo, Rakesh Bedi and Archana Puran Singh that aired on Doordarshan from 1994-1999 with 13 episodes, is scheduled for a comeback on DD National from April in the 2 PM slot. The show was written by Ashok Patole, directed by Rajan Waghdhare and produced by Gautam Adhikari and Markand Adhikari. Shriman Shrimati is a popular sitcom in 1994 that upped the ante of comedy shows in India. The plot was about loving the neighbor’s wife. Married Keshav Kulkarni (Jatin Kanakia) gets attracted to actor Prema Shalini (Archana Puran Singh) who lives with her effeminate husband Dilruba (Rakesh Bedi), while Dilruba finds Keshav’s elegant wife Kokila (Reema Lagoo) attractive. While the guys flirt with each other’s wives, they never cross the line.

Soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the 21-day lockdown, many social media users urged Doordarshan to bring back its classic like Ramayan and Mahabharat which worked as magnets for the audience back in the day.
