As India experiences a 21-day nationwide lockdown to fight against the growing coronavirus pandemic, the film and television industries are doing their best to encourage people to stay indoors under self-quarantine. As per a tweet made by Shashi Shekhar, CEO of Prasar Bharti (Doordarshan and All India Radio), the channel might just soon start telecasting popular mythological shows – Ramayana and Mahabharata again. The news comes favourable for all those who are still not equipped enough to subscribe to various digital streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
In the tweet made by Shashi Shekhar, it is mentioned that the team is working on broadcasting BR Chopra’s Mahabharata and Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana in a specific time slot and the information regarding the same will be out by the end of the day. The CEO shared the screenshot of a user’s post requesting him to broadcast these shows again. His tweet read, “Hopeful of sharing schedule by end of day today. Many channels have re-plugged their popular old shows as the shooting of the new and ongoing shows stand suspended amid the countrywide lockdown. Colors TV started telecasting Bigg Boss 13 again from Monday while Sony TV is relying on The Kapil Sharma Show.
In China, where the outbreak of the virus was first experienced, theatre owners have decided to screen popular movies like Avatar, Avengers: Endgame and the Harry Potter series to bring back the crowd to the screen once again and boost the market.
