In an act to save the planet, Earth Hour is an international event, proposed by World Wildlife Fund that encourages people to turn off non-essential electric equipments for an hour towards the end of March. Dia Mirza urged fans to participate and captioned the video, “This 28th Of March #EarthHour 2020 as we switch off our lights between 8:30pm and 9:30pm IST let’s consider one more thing we can #GiveUp. The time to make bigger choices (because we can, we are privileged) is NOW. This year I will give up all use of air conditioning at home and my car. Join me – Give Up and be a voice for the planet. #VoiceForThePlanet #StayHomeStaySafe @wwfindia @we.theplanet @unep @unsdgadvocates @uninindia @moefccgoi.”

Bhumi Pednekar has urged India to contribute towards climate conservation. She says, “So, today from 8.30 pm – 9.30 pm, the world is going together observe the Earth Hour. It’s that one hour where we switch off any non-essential lights, save on as much electricity as possible. I know we all are at home – isolated and we kind of re-connect with nature and give back. It’s time to get on to a new journey of just trying to co-exist with nature. It is Earth hour and we must, must participate in it.”

Randeep Hooda tweeted, “Now we know we are all in this together and there is no Planet B.. We did it for JantaCurfew and we have to continue to do it in this 21-day lockdown period. Also, while we StayHome, let’s all also follow the EarthHour TODAY on 28Marchswitchoff from 8:30-9:30pm. @wwfindia.”

Started by World Wildlife Fund, the global grassroots event takes place every year in March and encourages people and businesses to switch off unnecessary lights and appliances like fridges, freezers, hot water cylinders, lights, and dryers to conserve energy. In the one hour of the event, from 8:30 pm to 9 pm, major landmarks including the Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building, Toronto’s CN Tower and others, dim or shut off their lights to mark the occasion.
