Well after a long delay, Kangana Ranuat’s Emergency has finally released in theatres on Friday, with fans rushing to their nearest cinema to watch the first day shows. The film has received positive reviews and opened to a decent start at the box office. Moreover, the political drama also beat Ajay Devgn, Aaman Devgn, and Rasha Thadani-starrer Azaad with its opening day collection.

According to early estimates by Sacnilk, Emergency collected Rs 2.39 crore on Friday. These figures are roughly 36 per cent higher what trade analysts predicted. Moreover, January 17 marks Cinema Day, hence movie tickets were sold out at affordable prices, starting from Rs 99. It is estimated that Kangana Ranuat’s political drama will gain traction during the weekend, but sustaining this momentum is crucial for solid weekend collections.

Kangana Ranuat’s Emergency beats Ajay Devgn’s Azaad on Day 1

Emergency was released alongside Ajay Devgn’s Azaad. The action romantic drama managed to rake in only Rs 1.60 crore on its opening day. Despite Ajay Devgn’s star power and his effort in launching new fresh faces, his nephew Aman Devgn and Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha Thadani, the film couldn’t take whole advantage of its positives. Moreover, the affordable ticket prices also didn’t work in the favour of Azaad.

More about Emergency

Kangana Ranuat’s Emergency has garnered considerable attention for its storyline centered on the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s tenure. Despite a modest promotional effort, the film relies heavily on Kangana’s star power to attract viewers to the theatres.

Apart from Ranaut in the lead role, the ‘Emergency’ movie also features Anupam Kher(Jayaprakash Narayan), Shreyas Talpade(Atal Bihari Vajpayee), Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman(Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw), Adhir Bhat(Feroze Gandhi) and Vishak Nair (Sanjay Gandhi) in key roles.
