Actor Radhika Madan has joined a new campaign against bra strap shaming. No woman in the country has been able to escape the stares she gets if her bra strap is visible. To live carefree without being shamed for visible bra straps is what Radhika is rooting for through this campaign. She took to Instagram to share a video that talks about normalising the ‘bra strap’ and how a tiny strap should not be considered the symbol of modesty and public decency. The video features the types of aunties in our country who don’t think twice before judging a young woman if her bra strap is visible. In the end of the video, Radhika highlights how life would have been equally normal and easier had women were not asked to hide their peeking bra straps amid all other moral duties that they are anyway asked to perform. Madan was quoted saying, “Awkward stares nasty glances, unwanted touch, almost all of us have been subjected to such instances while travelling in public transport or otherwise. get a life dude, it’s just a strap – that’s it. Let’s celebrate this Women’s Day differently and choose not to feel awkward. Straps don’t shame, so you shouldn’t also.”
The campaign has been launched by MTV and features many talented young women being objected in public for their peeking bra straps. A part of the video sarcastically says, “Jo ladkiyan apna bra strap dikhati hain, chahein jitni bhi kaabil ho… unka character toh dhila hi hai…”.
