Filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari is busy developing the three-parts Ramayana series that he is directing with Ravi Udyawar. The popular director spoke about the project and also gave clarity on its casting. Rumours are rife for a while that the project features Hrithik Roshan in the role of Lord Rama while Deepika Padukone has been approached for the role of Sita. However, Tiwari said as much as he wants these reports to be true, there’s, unfortunately, no truth to the same.

The Chhichhore director interacted with Mid-Day in his latest interview and commented on the speculations of having Hrithik and Deepika as the new pair fronting his series. He said, “Who wouldn’t want them in their film? But (the reports) are not true.”

The industry is currently experiencing a lockdown in the times of coronavirus. Tiwari revealed that all of them are waiting to resume the work on the series which is produced by Madhu Mantena, Allu Arjun and Namita Malhotra. He said the work has paused for a while and all films including his Ramayana are going to see a delay of about four months. He said the situation will be easier to asses once the lockdown is over. Tiwari was quoted saying, “Once I realised that the lockdown (will go on for long), my writers and I resumed work. We are developing the script over group of calls on FaceTime. Most of the members are based in different parts of the country.”

Tiwari went on to say that they are not thinking about going on the floors in a hurry. The director said the team is busy preparing for the film and there’s a lot that needs to be done right now before anyone thinks of hitting the sets with the magnum opus at hand. “It is difficult to put a timeline to Ramayana in the current scenario. I presume every project will be delayed by four months. The team is working on the prep, but we are far from going on floors,” he said.

Ramayana is being made as a Pan-India film in three languages – Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It’s being made in 3D.
