Actress Meher Vij never shied away from expressing her views. She is known for her impactful performances in films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Secret Superstar, Maharaj and more. Recently, the actress reflects on her journey and how she doesn’t want to limit herself to smaller roles anymore. Moreover, Meher also discussed getting stereotyped after playing the character of ‘mother’ in superhit films.
In an exclusive conversation with India.com, Meher discussed how she won’t go back playing minor roles in films anymore. The actress said, “I don’t think I’ll be playing those kind of small roles now because I want to see myself grow now, I don’t want to put myself into that. I am not saying it’s bad or good to play small characters, if it’s a great character I will do it I, it’s nothing like that” Meher further said that she wants to see herself in more ‘bigger’ and ‘stronger’ characters. “I don’t think I’ll go back to that now. I would like to grow from here.” she added.
Following her performances in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Secret Superstar where she played the role of a mother, Meher did received did various offers but nothing aligned with her career goals. Speaking about industry’s tendency to stereotype actors on the basis of their previous roles, the actress said, “If you launch as a villain, you will cast in those kind of roles, or if you launch as a comedian, you will be cast in the same. So, it was nothing new for me.”
The Secret Superstar actress further added that she had to fight back by saying no to such roles, even if it was for a big project. She said, “I had to let go a lot of work, I know it will take a lot of time, but I will create my own niche, my own path.” Reflecting on the time period when she had to let go big opportunities, Meher said, “I was not okay, as it takes a lot to let go these kind of projects and I was offered good big projects. So, it takes a lot of guts to do that, again, I’ll say it was my decision, good or bad, I have to face it. I will take the responsibility of whatever I have accepted or rejected.”
Meanwhile, Meher Vij was last seen in Bandaa Singh Chaudhary, co-starring Arshad Warsi. Helmed by Abhishek Saxena and produced by Arbaaz Khan, the film is set around Punjab in 1984 where a man fights with militants for survival.
