Akshay Mhatre plays the lead role of Naren in Zee TV show Piya Albela. The actor took a lot of effort to play the role of a rich chap lost on a spiritual trail. While prepping for the show Akshay lost as much as eight kgs to resemble a man practising yoga on regular basis. That’s not all, he even stopped going out with friends and partying to get into the skin of her character. Now, we hear that the actor will be shedding it all for his TV show.
Yes, you heard that right Akshay Mhatre will go nude in Piya Albela in the coming episode. The news has created a stir as this will be the first telly show to feature nudity on a national television. But do you know, it was not easy for Akshay either. The actor in his exclusive statement revealed that he tried to convince Sooraj Barjatya to change his mind. But, Sooraj insisted as the scene was very crucial for the show’s plot.
The actor in his statement said, “In my entire life I have never removed my t-shirt also in front of so many people. I am shy by nature and won’t even remove my shirt to impress a girl, so this came as a shock. I took it as a joke when Sooraj sir told me that I will have to go nude for a sequence. After all, they have never even shown a kiss between the lead pair in any of their shows or films. But when I realised that he was serious, I became quite nervous. The scene is crucial to the story line, so I decided to go ahead. Though I went nude only for a couple of shots, it was an extremely embarrassing experience. Nobody was allowed on the set apart from the DOP. He also says, I tried to ‘cover up’ by trying stockings and skin-coloured shorts, but in vain. We tried everything, but it looked fake. We had to show that my character, who is spiritually inclined, doesn’t care about his body anymore. I don’t know how much of it will be shown, but we have done our best to make it look aesthetic”. Earlier, Akshay in his statement to IANS had said that he has to maintain his lean look for the role. He was quoted saying, “Naren’s character is a product of Sooraj (Barjatya) sir’s vision. He was very clear about the way he wanted Naren to look and behave. Appearance-wise, he is a lean guy rather than a gym-chiselled muscular hunk.”
