Early today morning, well known physicist, Stephen Hawking, breathed his last. He was 76. He was known for his astounding contribution o the world of science and his exceptional sense of humour. He was known for his work with black holes and relativity. He even wrote a number of popular science books, one of which is, ‘A Brief History of Time’. After being diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone disease, at the age of 22, Prof Hawking was given just a few years to live. The illness left him in a wheelchair and incapacitated to speak except through a voice synthesiser. However, he didn’t let it hold him back and went on to do some stupendous work in the field of science. He is survived by his two children and former wife. The physicist’s death indeed comes as a huge loss to the scientific community.In 2014, a movie was made on the iconic personality, titled – The Theory of Everything, which starred Eddie Redmayne as the theoretical physicist. His wife was played by Felicity Jones. Eddie also won the Oscars in the Best Actor Category for his role as Stephen Hawking.
