The last couple of days saw Box Office of the recently released films being hit hard after theatres and multiplexes shut down business in lieu of the coronavirus scare but the adverse effect is majorly on the daily wage earners in the industry for whom Producers Guild of India have now set up a relief fund. Urging “industry waalon” to contribute for the same, Toofan star Farhan Akhtar shared a circular asking for donations after the film bodies called for a complete shooting halt of all entertainment formats atleast till March 31. Taking to his Instagram handle, Farhan shared a picture of the notice sent by Producers Guild of India that dropped instructions on how to contribute for the relief fund. It quoted Siddharth Roy Kapur, president of the Producers Guild of India, stating “In light of the complete shutdown of all production related activity for the foreseeable future due to the COVID-19 outbreak, there is bound to be a significant impact on the lives and livelihoods of daily wage earners in the industry. The Producers Guild has decided to set up a relief fund to help support those most affected by the shutdown. Farhan captioned the notice, “Dil khol ke dijiye industry waalon (Donate open-heartedly, industry folks). The women and men who work tirelessly to help us make our films, today need our help. While talking about how will the affected people be identified, Kulmeet Makkar, CEO of Film and Television Producers’ Guild of India said, “Hypothetically, let’s say Bhansali had a 60-day schedule, and the unit could work for only 15 days (before the shutdown). So, they will be compensated for the remaining 45 days of work because we don’t want people to feel the loss of livelihood. (Even though the shutdown is till March 31), we are preparing for an eventuality that could last anywhere between 15 to 60 days.”
Amid the COVID-19 scare, Yash Raj Films and Excel Entertainment have decided to change the release dates of their two much-anticipated flicks – Ranveer Singh starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Farhan Akhtar’s Toofan. While Ranveer’s comedy-drama will hit the theatres on October 2, 2021, Farhan Akhtar’s sports flick will make it to the theatres on September 18, 2021 as per the announcement made on Friday. An official announcement was made in this regard by YRF on Twitter. “In the interest of both films and to ensure an ideal theatrical release, #AdityaChopra & @ritesh_sid have decided to release their films on different dates. YRF will release #JayeshbhaiJordaar on 2nd October and @excelmovies will release #Toofaan on 18th September 2020,” tweeted YRF.
