Famous Bollywood’s go-to gynaecologist, Dr. Rustom Soonawala, sadly passed away on January 5, 2025, at the age of 95. For two decades, Dr. Rustom Soonawala served as a medical advisor to hospital trustees. Due to his stellar career performance, Dr. Rustom was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri. During his career, he delivered several star kids, including Vamika Kohli, Raha Kapoor, Taimur Ali Khan, and Jehangir Ali Khan (aka Jeh), along with their parents, Kareena and Ranbir Kapoor.

What was Dr. Rustom Soonawala’s Fee?

Dr. Rustom was a renowned doctor at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. According to reports, his consultation fee was Rs 4,000. Despite being retired, Dr. Rustom continued offering consultations to people in need. Even with a hectic schedule, he managed to take time for every patient and treated them with love and care.

Dr Rustom was known for inventing the polyethylene intra-uterine device in the 1960s, which served as an alternative to birth control. This method was considered safe back then and is still used in some places today.

Dr. Rustom’s Biography

In 2015, renowned food critic and former patient Rashmi Uday Singh wrote Dr Rustom’s biography, where she highlighted his dedication to his work. She shared an incident where Dr Rustom rushed to deliver a baby immediately after attending his best friend’s funeral.

She wrote, “I had been his patient for forty years, but it took me five years to write his biography.” According to TOI, she claimed, “He was the kindest, most caring doctor, performed my hysterectomy, and delivered my son.”
