In the same week as his Padman is gearing up to hit screens on February 9, 2018, Akshay Kumar has fans excited for his next film – Gold. The teaser of this Reema Kagti film has just released and it will leave you intrigued and waiting to see more, partly because it is also a little confusing. The film is touted to be a sports biopic based on the life of hockey player Balbir Singh Srm who was on the team that won the first Olympic medal for India post Independence in 1948. However, in the trailer, you will not see the sports legend but Akshay, who plays a ‘crazy Bengali who loves hockey and his country India.’ All he wants is to bring together players to form a team which can guarantee gold at the Olympics. Akki plays the coach of the hockey team that goes for gold and his act would definitely remind you of Shah Rukh Khan from Chak De! India. But will Gold be as moving as Khan’s film? The teaser doesn’t promise much. In fact, although Akki tries hard to carry off the Bengali diction, he comes across as trying too hard. He looks the part though. Apart from Akshay, the film also stars Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh and marks the Bollywood debut of TV hottie – Mouni Roy. It has been reported that the entire team of actors underwent a rigorous training to ace their roles of hockey players. They were trained by former captain of the Indian National Team Sandeep Singh himself to perfect their hockey skills. The film has been extensively shot in Yorkshire and the Midlands, England and promises to take us back in time as it is set in the backdrop of the 1940s-50s.
