Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is reportedly in discussions to collaborate with acclaimed director TJ Gnanavel for an upcoming project. Gnanavel, known for his critically acclaimed film Jai Bhim and Vettaiyan featuring Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, has pitched a script to Mohanlal that the actor has reportedly found compelling.
As per reports, the project is said to be inspired by the life of P. Rajagopal, the founder of the Saravana Bhavan restaurant chain, who was later convicted of murder. The biopic aims to delve into the complex narrative of Rajagopal’s rise in the culinary world and his subsequent legal troubles. Co-written by Gnanavel and Hemanth M. Rao, known for his work on Andhadhun and Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, the film promises a gripping storyline that explores themes of ambition, power, and downfall.
Fans of Mohanlal can anticipate a dynamic range of performances from the veteran actor, as he transitions from the heartfelt family drama Hridayapoorvam to a potentially intense biopic under the direction of TJ Gnanavel. In Hridayapoorvam, Mohanlal reunites with director Sathyan Anthikad after a decade, delivering a touching portrayal of a heart transplant survivor who becomes intricately involved with his donor’s family during a wedding in Pune.
The film, released during the Onam festival, has been well-received, earning Rs 13.5 crore within the first five days and maintaining steady audience interest despite competition from other major releases. However, this project would offer Mohanlal an opportunity to delve into a complex character, showcasing his versatility and depth as an actor.
Before Jai Bhim, Gnanavel had worked as a writer for several films and made his directorial debut with Kootathil Oruthan (2017), a coming-of-age drama. However, it was Jai Bhim that truly put him in the spotlight, earning international recognition and making it to the Oscars’ YouTube channel’s “Scene at the Academy” section. The film also holds an IMDb rating of 8.8, making it one of the highest-rated Indian films.
With Mohanlal’s potential involvement and Gnanavel’s directorial prowess, the film is expected to offer a thought-provoking exploration of ambition, morality, and the consequences of one’s actions.
