Udta Punjab: This is how Alia Bhatt prepped for her role as Bihari migrant

Alia Bhatt’s role as a Bihari migrant in Udta Punjab has caught a lot of eyeballs. The actress has been showered with praises for her looks and powerful performance in the film. Alia has taken a lot of efforts to get her role as a hockey player right. Right from meeting real-life hockey players to taking special lessons for playing the national games, she did it all. The 23-year-old actress has spent more than a month to train herself practicing the sport. She made sure she got all her postures while playing hockey right. Alia while interacting with the media about her role in the film said, “Since I began practicing I have realized that hockey is a difficult sport and requires a lot of skill. I was given a coach and we trained at a place in Bandra. I would reach at around 6 am.”

Recently the actress shared a picture with the girls’ hockey team with whom she had worked for the film. These young beauties are students from various colleges in Mumbai, namely  St. Andrews, Ambedkar College, Somaiya College, Jhunjhunwala College, SNDT College. In addition to playing a sportsman’s role, she plays a drug addict too. The Bollywood actress has studied the case of drug abuse in Punjab. She also saw a number of documentaries to understand how drug addicts behave. She said, “I saw many documentaries and videos to understand the behavioural patterns of those under the influence. It was disturbing.”

Her upcoming film Udta Punjab revolves around the life of four individuals, a rockstar, a hockey player, a doctor and a policeman. All four have been impacted with substance abuse that is prevalent in the state. The movie is produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Phantom Productions. Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, Udta Punjab also stars Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in pivotal roles. The movie is slated to hit the silver screens by 17 June 2016.
