There are very few actors who, irrespective of not being from India, make a big mark in the Bollywood industry. One among them has to be the lead antagonist of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s film Akhanda 2—Sangay Tsheltrim. Sangay, who made his debut with the film Radhe in Bollywood, has gone on to work with big names including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and now Nandamuri Balakrishna. Tsheltrim is carving his way in the industry and recently, in an exclusive conversation with India.com, opened up about his experiences working with Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. While expressing gratitude for Salman, Sangay said that the Tiger actor gave him “the big break,” whereas for SRK, he called him a “gentleman.”
When asked about his experience working with Salman Khan and whether he ever felt overshadowed during the shoot, the actor said, “I was given my break by Salman sir. He handpicked me. I never asked to be a Bollywood actor, but then he saw me, we met for a few hours, and he offered me the role, thinking that this guy has something in him. So, this is how I got my break. No struggle at all, I feel very blessed in this way. With Salman sir, I never felt that I might be overshadowed. He is a big star. Never in my life did I can never imagine coming anywhere near his feet, whether in terms of stardom, acting, or whatever. I was even ready to just get a punch from him, because it meant a great deal to me to share the screen space with him.”
The Akhanda 2 actor added, “Salman sir made sure that I looked very good on the screen and that my character embraced the villain role in Radhe. This was one of the reasons why I got noticed by other people and was even offered Jawan and a bunch of other films. I am here because Salman sir saw my potential and gave me a chance.”
Coming to Shah Rukh Khan, Sangay had nothing but heaps of praise for the actor. He also revealed how SRK’s humble nature impressed him during the shoot of Jawan. He said, “Shah Rukh Khan sir is a gentleman and very professional when it comes to his work. He ensures that his co-actors are comfortable and looked after. It was fun sharing screen space with SRK. He also taught me, ‘Look beta, you have to do like this and that,’ you know, those little tips which help improve your skills.”
Sangay is a Bhutanese actor and a former captain of the Royal Bodyguard of Bhutan in the Royal Bhutan Army. He has featured in several films, including Radhe, which was his Bollywood break. Over the next few years, he starred in films like Rohingya – People from Nowhere, Jawan, Agent, The Freelancer, and Ruslaan.
Sangay was recently seen in Akhanda 2: Thaandavam, where he portrays the role of General Lee.
