Ilaiyaraaja sues SP Balasubrahmanyam, BANS him from singing his songs in future

Celebrated legendary singer S P Balasubrahmanyam raised a lot of questions when he confirmed that he received a legal notice from music maestro Ilaiyaraaja, and that the singer will never be singing his songs without his permission. Balasubrahmanyam confirmed this news on Saturday night. S.P. Balasybrahmanyam is currently on a world tour organised by his son SPB Charan, and has already performed in Russia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai. Initially, there was news that Ilaiyaraaja had sued the singer for singing his songs without taking a green signal for him. But music fans found it hard to believe because they were the closest friends and had also collaborated earlier on several occasions.

But the singer confirmed it when he wrote the news on his official Facebook page. S P Balasubrahmanyam’s wrote on Facebook, “Couple of days back, an Attorney representing Shri. Iliayaraaja, sent legal notices to me, Smt.Chithra, Charan, organisers of the concerts in different cities and the managements of all the venues, which says that we are not supposed to perform compositions of Shri.Iliayaraaja without his permission, if so, it is breaking the copyright law and have to pay huge financial penalties and face legal action. Let me say, I am ignorant of these legalities.”

Before Balasubrahmanyam’s world music tour started, there were reports that the music maestro Iliayaraaja had threatened to sue the singer if he sang his songs at the tour. But nobody could believe that he would actually do so. The singer further said that Ilayaraaja had not sent them any such notice earlier when they performed his compositions during their “SPB50” world tour, which began in August 2016. “I don’t know why [he sent the notices] now when we started our US tour.”  He also said, “I could have certainly talked to him had he contacted me or sent a mail before our tour…My intention of this information was to prepare the audience. I do not want my good friend Shri Raaja to be inconvenienced,” the Tamil singer said.
