People in India who are locked inside their houses with no goal to achieve these days found a new morning on Saturday. Families, all dressed, geared up to watch Ramayan together as the iconic Ramanand Sagar show hit the TV screens after years on March 28. To encourage people to stay inside amid the nationwide lockdown announced to combat the growing coronavirus pandemic in India, Doordarshan decided to rerun their iconic shows including Ramayan and Mahabharat from this weekend. The first episode of the mythological show was aired at 9 am on DD National and people celebrated the moment in a newly created hysteria. #Ramayan became the top trend on Twitter and users posted pictures of themselves watching the show with their families. The viewers experienced a collective sense of nostalgia and went on to post the pictures of their TV screens featuring the stills from the first episode of Ramayan. Many users revealed how they were quite young – around seven or eight years old when they watched the iconic show with their family and the memories of the same are etched in their hearts. Ramayan will again be aired at 9 pm tonight. Apart from this Ramanand Sagar’s show, BR Chopra’s Mahabharat is also being aired on DD Bharati at 12 pm and 7 pm in two time slots daily. Reports also suggest that Doordarshan is also going to replug Shah Rukh Khan’s TV show Circus once again.

Reportedly, Doordarshan witnessed an extreme spike in its TRP ratings on Saturday due to Ramayan. This is expected to continue for some days until the lockdown is over. Keep watching and stay indoors!
