Lyca Productions, the makers of Indian 2, have released an official statement in response to actor Kamal Haasan‘s letter in which he questioned the safety standards placed on the sets of the film. Three technicians died last week when a crane fell on the sets during the shooting and director Shankar, actors Kamal Haasan and Kajal Aggarwal escaped unhurt. In their statement addressing Haasan, director of Lyca Productions Neeklant Narayanpur mentioned that the company took care of all the injured employees on the sets and also announced financial assistance to the tune of Rs 2 crore to the family members of the deceased. The letter added that Mr Subaskaran and senior management took all the measures even before the actor demanded a safety audit. “Mr. Subaskarn and the senior management boarded the first available flight and landed in Chennai at 3 pm on the 20th of February and proceeded immediately to the mortuary to pay respects to the deceased and console their families. We were in constant touch with your office all through and arrived at the mortuary just 15 minutes after you. at that very point, Mr. Subaskaran announced financial assistance to the tune of Rs 2 crore to the family members of the deceased, and those who suffered injuries and also undertook to take care of their treatment. All these measures were taken before the receipt of your letter and is unfortunate that this did not come to your attention before the 22nd February,” read a part of the long statement. In one of the major parts of the statement, the director of Lyca Productions reminded Haasan that the shoot was happening under his supervision along with director Shankar, therefore, the blame of the incident should be dealt within ‘the spirit of collective responsibility and rectification.’
Earlier, in his letter to the production, Haasan said that the company should ‘compensate’ any ‘loss, cost damage, risk undergone on account of the production team failing to carry out what they ought to have carried out…’

The incident happened at suburban Narathpet area during the film’s shooting when a crane, weighing around 100 tons, employed to erect the movie’s set, collapsed killing three assistants working at the scene. Actor-politician Kamal Haasan along with his co-star Kajal Aggarwal witnessed a narrow escape from the accident. The Tamil Nadu Police arrested the crane operator who was in charge at the time when the accident killed three technicians on the sets of Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 in Chennai.
