He debuted as a child artist with Rajesh Khanna and Rishi Kapoor in 1988’s Vijay, and then tried his luck in films as a lead actor, but he could not achieve success. Born to singer and grandson of singer Mukesh, he worked as an assistant director in the 2002 film Mujhse Dosti Karoge. With back-to-back consecutive flops, he has only deleivered three successful films in his entire career. The movies are New York, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Golmaal Again.
Yes, we are talking about Neil Nitin Mukesh. He was last seen in Bypass Road in 2019, which unfortunately did not perform well at the box office. Neil is known for films like Johnny Gaddar, 7 Khoon Maaf, and Wazir. Now, he has returned with the action-comedy film Hisab Barabar, directed by Ashwini Dhir. This is Neil’s first OTT film, and he shares the screen with R. Madhavan and Kriti Kulhari.
Released on ZEE5 on January 24, Hisab Barabar is getting a great response from the audience. During the film’s promotion, Neil spoke exclusively to DNA India about his long absence from films. He explained why he took a break, why he chose to return with ‘Hisab Barabar,’ and his views on the OTT platform. According to Neil, the film is receiving a lot of appreciation, and his phone has been ringing non-stop with positive feedback. In the movie, he plays the character of Mickey Mehta.
Neil shared that he rejected many film offers over the years, including some big-budget projects. At times, he worried whether turning down so many opportunities would affect his career. He also revealed that he had agreed to work on some films, but they were shelved due to issues with producers and directors.

Speaking about his past roles, Neil mentioned that he had declined many negative roles because he wanted something different. He explained that his character Mickey Mehta in Hisab Barabar is not a typical villain but a well-developed role with depth and emotions. In the show, Mickey is a mastermind who makes money using his intelligence, but his rivalry with Madhavan’s character, Radhe Mohan, leads to conflicts. The character has multiple layers, powerful dialogues, and that’s what made Neil say yes to the film.
