The film Zakhmi Insaan was released in 1982, marking 42 years since its debut. Helmed by Deepak Balraj Vijay, it features Javed Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Rita Bhaduri and Arun Irani. With this film, Shakti Kapoor attempted to break away from his established image as a villain and said yes to the lead role. But unfortunately, Zakhmee Insaan turned out to be a huge flop at the box office. Not just that, it was also removed from theatres only 15 minutes after its release.
In a recent episode of The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show, Shakti Kapoor appeared alongside Govinda where they discussed their film careers. Shakti Kapoor, known for his iconic villainous roles in the 90s, shared an amusing story about how he once decided to stop playing negative characters after landing the lead role in Zakhmee Insaan. Reflecting on the experience, the actor said, “I tried to become a hero. I did the film Zakhmee Insaan as the lead, but that film made the producer, director, audience—everyone—Zakhmee. It’s a world record! The film released in theatres at 12 and was removed by 12:15 pm. Before that, I had told everyone I worked with as a villain that I wouldn’t play such roles anymore because I was now a hero. After the film’s release, I went back to all of them, begging for my villain roles again.”

Zakhmi Insaan
Shakti Kapoor said that before the release of the film, he was rejecting villain roles, claiming that he had become a hero. However, after the film turned out to be a big flop, he found himself begging people for villain roles again. Well, Zakhmee Insaan was his first and last film as lead actor. After this, he never had the courage to become a lead hero.
In a career spanning over three decades, Shakti Kapoor has appeared in more than 700 films. His last biggest release was in 2023 film Animal alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Rashmika Mandanna. The actor had a small role in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s action drama. It turned out to be a blockbuster and earned over Rs 900 crore at the box office.
