Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Raj Kapoor, Rishi Kapor, Dilip Kapoor, and even for the fact Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth, and Kamal Haasan, are some of the biggest superstars in Indian cinema. Many would think that they are India’s most successful actors, but you are wrong. This actor holds the record of giving more hits than anybody in the film industry. This actor has given more hits than the list of combined actors. Can you name this actor?
We are talking about the legendary actor Prem Nazir. The actor alone holds multiple records during his impeccable run in the film industry. Prem Nazir had ruled over the Malayalam film industry, he reigned over Malayalam cinema for nearly three decades leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
From 1951 to 1989, Nazir became the face of Malayalam films, starring in an astonishing 720 films, a record that stood unmatched for years. His unparalleled work ethic saw him juggle double or even triple shifts during his peak, sometimes appearing in as many as 30 films in a single year an achievement that earned him another world record.
But it wasn’t just quantity that set Nazir apart; his films were largely successful, with industry experts estimating that over half of his movies became box office hits. Many historians agree that he starred in at least 400 successful films, with around 50 reaching blockbuster status. Nazir’s incredible legacy as both a prolific actor and a consistent box office draw cemented his place as one of the greatest stars in the history of Indian cinema.
To put Prem Nazir’s record into perspective, consider some of Indian cinema’s biggest stars. Amitabh Bachchan, for example, has fewer than 60 hits as a leading man, with only 10 blockbusters. Rajinikanth, a South Indian icon, has over 80 hits and more than a dozen blockbusters. The three Khans—Salman, Shah Rukh, and Aamir—have significantly fewer hits. Salman has 39 hits (15 blockbusters), Shah Rukh has 34 hits (10 blockbusters), and Aamir has 20 hits (6 blockbusters).
Even if you add up all the hits from these stars, it still doesn’t come close to Nazir’s record. While some of these stars may have had bigger films, Nazir achieved his success with a smaller audience in Malayalam cinema, making his achievement even more remarkable.
