In 2024, Big B gifted his cherished bungalow Prateeksha, valued at Rs 50.63 crore, to his daughter Shweta Bachchan. Prateeksha was Big B’s first home in Juhu, where he resides with his parents, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and mother Teji. The name bestowed by his father, holds a special place in the family’s history. Unlike his other residences, Prateeksha reflects nostalgia, familial warmth and the essence of Bachchan’s legacy.
Every home has a story and Amitabh Bachchan’s Prateeksha is no exception! One of the most captivating aspects of this property is its alluring garden, that features a 48-year-old tree, which was planted by Big B himself in 1976. In 2020, during a storm, the tree was uprooted and the actor replanted a new Gulmohar tree on his mother Teji Bachchan’s birth anniversary.
The entrance of Prateeksha features tan-coloured gates and a beautiful structure behind them. Earlier, Big B used to greet his fans outside Prateeksha every Sunday, until this tradition shifted to his other home Jalsa. Prateeksha’s interiors blend contemporary and traditional aesthetics. Designed in pastel hues, the living room perfectly exudes warmth and tranquility.
Prateeksha’s was transformed into a grand wedding place in 2007 for Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai’s wedding. This house has witnessed some of the most important events that has occurred in the Bachchan family.
Amitabh Bachchan once revealed that his father derived the name Prateeksha from one of his literary works, stating: “Swagat sabke liye yaha par, nahi kisi ke liye prateeksha.”
