Superstar Rajinikanth‘s upcoming mega-budget sci-fi movie 2.0, helmed by Shankar and also starring Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson in pivotal roles, has finally got a release date. The 67-year-old actor, who met his fans for the fifth consecutive day in Chennai, revealed the release date of 2.0 to his fans; the film, which is bankrolled by Subaskaran Allirajah, founder of Lyca Productions, is slated to hit the silver screens on April 14, 2018. 2.0 is one of the most-anticipated films of 2018. Speaking of Shankar’s ‘2.0’ release being shifted to April, the Kabali actor had said, “Since there are some more CG (computer graphics) work that needs to be done, it is getting delayed. We have shifted the release to April.” 2.0 was initially scheduled to release last year on Diwali but was later postponed to January 25. Due to the excessive CG work and a few re-recordings that had to be done by AR Rahman, the film was further shifted to April, although there was no official confirmation on when the film would release. The much-awaited confirmation has finally arrived from none other than our Superstar. Rajinikanth, during his recent interactions with fans in Chennai (on Saturday), announced that his highly anticipated upcoming film ‘2.0’ will release on April 14, which is the Tamil New Year. No doubt, the film will benefit from the holiday and prove it to be the highest grossing movie of all time. Superstar even mentioned that the 2.0 will be a unique film, he said, “You won’t find another movie like 2.0. There will be even more expensive films but content-wise 2.0 is very fresh and unique. It’ll be remembered like how Chandralekha is talked about even today.”
On the professional front, Rajinikanth has another movie coming right on its heels, Kaala, written and helmed by Pa. Rajinth and the movie is produced by Rajinikanth’s son-in-law Dhanush, while Akshay Kumar has three films lined up for release in 2018 with R Balki’s Padman being the first one, greenlit by Akshay Kumar’s wife Twinkle Khanna’s production house Mrs Funnybones Movies. The film also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte and is gearing up to release on 26th January 2018. Watch the space for more updates.
