Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are reportedly ending their marriage once again. Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, after a little over two years of marriage. TMZ first broke the news, which was later confirmed by multiple sources, including People magazine. Lopez reportedly submitted the divorce papers herself to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on August 20, citing April 26, 2024, as the date of separation, as reported by Variety. The singer has chosen to represent herself in the legal proceedings. The couple’s marriage began with a surprise wedding in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022, followed by a larger ceremony in Georgia on August 20, 2022, exactly two years before the divorce filing. According to People magazine, the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement. A source told the magazine, “She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken. The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their relationship in 2021, nearly 17 years after their first engagement ended in 2003. Fondly referred to as Bennifer by fans, the couple officially ended their initial engagement in January 2004 but remained friendly over the years.
Their renewed romance became public in April 2021, following Lopez’s split from former MLB star Alex Rodriguez. The couple made their relationship Instagram-official in July 2021 and were spotted together at the Venice Film Festival later that year. They announced their engagement in April 2022, leading to their surprise Las Vegas wedding, followed by a grander celebration in Georgia, attended by celebrities like Matt Damon, Kevin Smith, and Jason Mewes, with podcaster and life coach Jay Shetty officiating.
Lopez shares 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Affleck has three children—Violet Anne, 18, Seraphina Rose, 15, and Samuel, 12—with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
Their recent collaboration on Lopez’s Prime Video musical documentary, ‘This Is Me… Now: A Love Story,’ which accompanied her album release in February, was one of their final joint projects. Rumors of marital issues began circulating in May when they were frequently apart. Lopez was busy with movie promotions and her upcoming tour, while Affleck remained in Los Angeles for the filming of ‘The Accountant 2.’
Their relationship appeared increasingly strained over the summer, as Lopez spent time in the Hamptons and Affleck stayed in Los Angeles. In June, they listed their Beverly Hills mansion for sale, and Affleck purchased a new $20 million home in July. According to People magazine, the couple had already stopped living together, with Lopez reportedly not seeing Affleck for several weeks leading up to the divorce filing.
