The days following November 24 brought a heavy silence into the Deol household as the family gathered to remember Dharmendra, whose passing left a deep emotional void. His absence was felt not only by his loved ones but also by countless admirers who had followed his journey for decades. While fans mourned from afar, the family experienced the loss in its most personal form. On November 27, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol organised a prayer meet in Mumbai, where several well-known actors and colleagues arrived to offer their support and express their condolences.
A second prayer meet took place on December 11 in Delhi, organised by Hema Malini along with her daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. This gathering turned deeply emotional, especially for Hema Malini, who was seen breaking down while recalling her decades-long relationship with Dharmendra. Videos from this event were widely shared, allowing fans to witness the raw pain she felt while speaking about her journey with him.
Addressing the gathering, Hema Malini remembered their long association, both on-screen and off-screen. She said, “Dharmendra ji se mera association 57 saal ka hai. Jab main film industry mein aayi, tab se unhi ke saath zyaadatar film karne ka avsar mila. Nearly 45 films, we worked together. Out of that, 25 films or more than that became superhit films. Toh hum dono ko ek hit pair ke roop mein industry bhi pyaar karti thi aur janta ne bhi humein khoob pyaar diya.”
“Jis shaks ke sath maine pyaar ka abhinay kiya, wahi mere jeevansathi ban gaye… humara pyaar saccha tha… wo mere liye ek bahut samarpit jeevan sathi bane… meri dono betiyon Esha aur Ahana ke liye ek vaatsalya ke bhare ek pita bane aur unki shaadi karayi.”
Hosted by Hema, Esha, her ex-husband Bharat Takhtani, Ahana and her husband Vaibhav Vohra, the prayer meet was held at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath. Several prominent personalities attended the gathering to pay their final respects. Bollywood actor and Lok Sabha MP Kangana Ranaut, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and Home Minister Amit Shah were among those who joined the family in honouring Dharam Paaji during this emotional farewell.
