Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, known for directing hard-hitting films like Kaante, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Kaabil, and Mumbai Saga, recently shared his honest opinion about Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar. The director called the spy action thriller a “one-man show” and openly praised Aditya Dhar’s vision and execution. His appreciation, however, soon turned into a talking point for an entirely different reason. While Sanjay Gupta enjoyed the film purely as cinema, his choice of words in a social media post led to confusion and criticism, pulling him into an online controversy he did not expect.
After watching Dhurandhar, Sanjay Gupta took to X to share his thoughts. He wrote, “I finally watched #DHURANDHAR and thoroughly enjoyed it. For me it was a ONE MAN SHOW all the way and that man is @AdityaDharFilms. I’m not interested in all the propaganda bullshit. I had super fun watching it in IMAX, especially the music. WELL DONE & CONGRATULATIONS to the entire team.”
The mention of “propaganda” immediately caught the attention of netizens, who questioned what he meant and accused him of taking a political stand. Many misunderstood his comment, assuming he was referring to hidden messaging in the film.

Soon after, the director clarified his stand and revealed that he was being abused online. Addressing the trolling, Sanjay Gupta wrote, “I can’t believe the whole lot of idiots abusing me for this tweet about #Dhurandhar. What I mean is that I don’t think there is any propaganda in the film. Get a life guys.” He made it clear that his comment was meant to say the opposite, that he watched the film purely for entertainment and did not see any agenda-driven content in it.
