In the new age of social media, opinions and perceptions on celebrities, whether it’s professional or personal, quickly take over the headlines. Sometimes, even a playful remark or something said in humour also becomes a topic of debate and quickly spirals into a controversy. One such similar case happened with Kajol and Twinkle Khanna’s popular chat show, Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle. A show that was supposed to delve into the lives of celebrities turned out to spark intense backlash for the host’s bold opinion on marriage, infidelity, and modern relationships. Now, in a newly released bonus episode, the duo has finally responded to the criticism that has been brewing online.
Author Twinkle Khanna and actor Kajol’s remarks on marriage and infidelity took a provocative turn on the show. While their opinion might have been said in a lighthearted tone, it quickly invited a lot of criticism.
In the bonus episode, speaking about the backlash, Kajol said: “Now it’s time for our next segment, which has gotten us into a lot of trouble.” She added that on their show, “Here opinions don’t matter as much as lighthearted teasing.”
Twinkle followed by admitting that the team should have been clearer from day one. She said they should have carried a disclaimer from the first episode itself: “And there’s a disclaimer, which we should have had from the first episode, that nothing we say in this segment should be taken seriously. Please don’t follow any of our advice in this segment.”
Among the conversations that caused a social media frenzy was the one featuring Vicky Kaushal and Kriti Sanon. During a game segment, the discussion took a surprising turn when Kajol, who is married to Ajay Devgn shared her thoughts on how modern marriages should work. She said that marriages should ideally come with “an expiry date and an option for renewal.”
Besides this, in an episode with Janhvi Kapoor and Karan Johar. Kajol and Twinkle sparked outrage by discussing the idea that physical and emotional infidelity might not carry the same weight.
Kajol and Twinkle said that for them, physical infidelity was “not a deal breaker.”
Karan also remarked, “Physical infidelity is not a deal breaker,” to which Janhvi immediately replied, “No, the deal is broken.”
Twinkle added her generational perspective:
“We’re in our 50s, she’s in her 20s, and she will get into this circle soon. She hasn’t seen the things we have seen. Raat gayi baat gayi (What’s happened, has happened).”
Despite the backlash, the show continues to attract star power. The bonus episode featured cricketers Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma. The series earlier hosted Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, and more. Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle is currently streaming on Prime Video.
