Kamal Haasan's elder brother Chandra Haasan passes away after a cardiac arrest

Kamal Haasan’s elder brother Chandra Haasan, who was a film producer, passed away on Saturday night.  The 82-year-old producer was in London at his daughter Anu Haasan’s residence, when he suffered a massive cardiac arrest. In January this year the Haasan family faced another tragedy when Chandra Haasan’s wife Geethamani had passed away at the age of 73. Chandra Haasan and Kamal Haasan were the partners of the production house Raj Kamal Films International, which had produced quite a number of successful films in the past, like Virumandi, Vishwaroopam, Thoongavanam among others.

Kamal has two elder brothers, Charu Haasan and Chandra Haasan. Besides being business partners, the three brothers shared a great bonding. Before joining the show business, Chandra Haasan was a practicing lawyer and he was Kamal’s biggest strength and stood by the actor during various struggles including the Vishwaroopam ban. Kamal had even said that he wouldn’t have made so many quality films under the Raaj Kamal International, without the guidance of his elder brother Chandra Haasan. We can understand how deeply his brother’s demise has affected Kamal.

Chandra Haasan is the only sibling among the Haasan brothers who has never acted in a movie. He was happier being the man behind the making of these movies. Though he was not interested in acting, his daughter Anu Haasan was well interested in acting. She was an actress who made her debut with ‘Indira’, that was directed by her cousin Suhasini Maniratnam. She was also a part of movies like Run, Nala Damayanthi, Aalavandhan (where she played her uncle, Kamal Haasan’s mother) and Aadhavan, and was also the host of the popular talk show Koffee with Anu.

On the work front, Kamal’s film ‘Sabash Naidu’ has been postponed for an indefinite period due to several technical reasons. But the actor is now personally involved in clearing the roadblocks and solving all issues related to his much-awaited film, which is a sequel to his 2013 film Vishwaroopam.
