Earlier this year, Akshay Kumar avoided a clash with a period film (Padman vs Padmaavat) but looks like he was destined for locking horns at the box office with a period saga. It is happening now with his Gold and Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika set for an August 15, 2018 release date. While Kangana’s film was earlier scheduled for an April 27 release date, delay in filming and VFX, forced the makers to push it ahead. The film directed by Krrish (of Baahubali fame), will now hit screens on Independence Day. Interestingly, in all the earlier scenarios, Kangana’s film had no choice but lock horns with films like Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar’s 2.0 and Nikkhil Advani’s – Saif Ali Khan starrer Baazaar. But looks like a clash was inevitable and therefore the makers are now looking at an August 15 date which not only gives them an extended weekend but also goes with the story of their film, which is based around the first war fought for India’s independence. Apart from the VFX work, what delayed the project is Kangana’s injury on the sets in December, which forced the makers to put the schedule on hold. While nothing is officially confirmed as yet, a source quoted by a leading daily suggests, “The content of the film, which is about the first war of Indian independence, makes it viable for an August 15 release. This also got instant thumbs-up from everyone involved in the project.” When asked if a clash with box office heavyweight Akshay’s Gold doesn’t bother team Manikarnika, the source said, “Given that it’s a long weekend, both Gold and Manikarnika can sail through which is the reason the producers have chosen to bring out the film on Independence Day.” Also Read - YouTuber Refuses To Pay Rs 500 Crore To Akshay Kumar in Defamation Case, Denies Allegations
There is no confirmation from the producers Kamal Jain and Nishant Pitti as yet. But if the film loses out on the August 15 date, it will then have Diwali 2018 – which is already booked by Aamir Khan’s Thugs Of Hindostan and reportedly by Rajinikanth’s 2.0 and then Christmas 2018 which is taken by Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero.
