Singer Kanika Kapoor‘s friend who travelled to Lucknow with her and then returned to Mumbai was forced to undergo a test for the coronavirus. A report in Mumbai Mirror suggests that the man who lives in Mumbai did not undergo any test himself after returning from Lucknow and therefore, his neighbours reported him to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Based on the complaint from the neighbours, the civic body reached out to the man in Juhu and took him to get tested at the Kasturba Hospital. Kanika was tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Friday when she made an official post on Instagram announcing that she had contracted COVID-19 after her return from the UK. The man who is considered the singer’s close friend lives with his parents who are in their seventies and that’s another reason why his behaviour of not going for the tests himself was considered deeply saddening and irresponsible by the neighbours. The report in the daily quoted the assistant municipal commissioner of K-West Ward – Vishwas Mote saying, “The police were called in when he refused to cooperate. He was admitted at Kasturba Hospital until his test results returned.” The commissioner added that for those who know that they have come in contact with a COVID-19 infected person, it’s very irresponsible for not taking tests on their own. On Sunday evening, the man was declared tested negative for the virus and was discharged at the hospital. However, he was asked to stay at his home under strict 14-days quarantine.
Notably, the UP health department and the administration created more than 100 teams with around 1000 members to track down people who got in touch with Kanika since March 11. In the boots-on-the-ground exercise, the teams reached out to people living near the singer’s house in Mahanagar.
Meanwhile, Kapoor is admitted at Lucknow’s Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences for the treatment.
