A huge shock has hit the family of actress Ashika Ranganath. Her 22-year-old cousin, Achala Harsha, an engineering graduate, died by suicide on November 22 in Bengaluru. She was found at a relative’s home in Panduranga Nagar. The loss has left her family, friends, and loved ones in deep grief.
According to her family, this was not a momentary decision, but the culmination of months of alleged harassment, abuse and betrayal, which they believe pushed her into taking the extreme step. As per the complaint filed by Achala’s father, she was in a relationship with a distant relative, Mayank Gowda, who is described by the family as a drug addict. They say he first pretended to be loving, but soon started pressuring her for a physical relationship before marriage. When she refused, he allegedly turned abusive, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
The allegations include constant harassment, repeated calls, threats, and manipulation. The family claims that after discovering he was involved with another woman, Achala confronted him, and that triggered further harassment. A purported chat screenshot shared by the family showed Achala writing: “Even after cheating on me, you still have the audacity to leave me… you’ve shattered me into a million pieces.”
After the family’s complaint, the local police registered a case of abetment to suicide under relevant sections, booking Mayank Gowda and his mother. The case was first filed at Hassan City Police Station but later transferred to the jurisdiction of Puttenahalli Police in Bengaluru, where the investigation is ongoing.
Achala’s parents and other relatives are demanding swift arrest and thorough action based on the evidence they claim to have provided. So far, the accused remain at large, a point that has drawn criticism and concern from the family and public alike.
As of now, Ashika Ranganath has not made any public comment about this tragedy. Social media shows that just a short while ago she shared a warm birthday post for her mother, posting unseen family photos, showing how quickly life and loss can collide.
Friends, fans, and supporters have expressed condolences to the family and called for justice. For many, this heartbreaking incident has sparked renewed discussions about harassment, mental health, and the vulnerability of young people in abusive relationships.
