Ace Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar, who launched Alia Bhatt in his movie Student Of The Year 8 years ago, in a recent interview revealed how he could not use Alia’s talent in her debut Bollywood movie. Karan, who has been a mentor and father to Alia, said that Alia’s character Shanaya was not very different from Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and that it he could have given her a better role. Talking about Alia Bhatt’s journey as an actor and how he failed to use her talent in her debut movie Student of The Year, Karan Johar in an intervew told Rajeev Masand, “She wasn’t used for her talent at all. In many ways, her emotional launch is Student of the Year but her real professional launch is Imtiaz Ali’s Highway. He further added, “”I always spotted that there was something about her but I didn’t use her talent at all. I actually don’t feel I full-fledged ever directed Alia the way I would like to do.”

Karan Johar last worked with Alia Bhatt in his multi-starrer project Kalank starring Sanjay Dutt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha. However, the movie tanked at the box office. He will now be working with Alia once again in his upcoming movie Takht co-starring Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Ranveer Singh and Janhvi Kapoor. The film is slated to hit the big screens on December 24, 2021 and is one of the most anticipated films of next year.
