Oh yes, there’s this new celebrity host in town with his brand new chat show. With his thick-rimmed glasses and geeky looks, Niranjan Iyengar-the well know dialogue writer and lyricist-makes for an unconventional host. He gets hold of celebrities, takes them to nice restaurants to have a heart-to-heart chat (nah, just a friendly, giggly and candid talk) with them. Here’s our take on the first episode of this brand new chat show.
1. We liked the feel of the show and the relaxed ambiance. It looks casual, chic and curiously different. The tastefully done restaurants make for a refreshingly hatke backdrop. And thankfully, there are no ostentatious sets, no long banister for celebs to side on, and- or for that matter- there’s no (mandatory-for-all-chat-shows) couch! The fact that it’s being aired on Zee Café gets the show a nice western feel to it.
2. The host looks friendly, REAL and above all he has no pretentious airs about himself. We liked his across-the-table chat with wine glasses thrown in to make the setting look friendly and inviting.
3. We are not sure though about who all are going to turn up on the show from B-town, considering the fact that Niranjan is close to KJo. It would be interesting to see if his guest-list goes beyond Johar’s close bunch of friends and his circle of celebs. So you will get to meet Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra and may be Varun Dhawan (KJO’s protégés that is). We hear Vidya Balan is also expected on the show (We have started cringing at the very idea of she turning up cad in a heavily Kanjeevaram-oh nyooo!)and unleashing her throaty laughter. We are excited to see Parineeti Chopra and Aditya Roy Kapur as well!
4. The choice of guests for the opening episode was apt, interesting and, above all, practical. Karan Johar, as we all know him, is amazingly effortless with his words and indulges in a holds-no-barred conversation. Johar discussed his range of sexual experiences. He stated in no uncertain way that he is indeed the 42-year-old virgin, He did not hesitate to reveal that he’s had only one serious relationship which lasted for only six months. KJo also mentioned, quite candidly, that he had a lot of unrequited love episodes and how he savours heartbreaks!
5. All in all, the show looks fine and watchable ( with its thankfully only 30-minutes format) it is indeed interesting to see if other celebs can match the benchmark set by KJo in terms of frankness and candid conversations over a cup of….errr a glass of wine!
