This actress won a National Film Award just two years after receiving the Best Debut Actress Award. Winning such a prestigious honour at the age of 19 was no small feat. At one point, she ruled Bollywood, but in the past six years, she has delivered eight consecutive flops. Despite this, the 39-year-old actress’ stardom remains intact, and she certainly isn’t short of money. She is extremely wealthy and continues to be a significant figure in the industry. Besides being an actress, she is also a director and an Member of Parliament.
Born in 1987 to businessman Amardeep Ranaut and school teacher Asha Ranaut, she spent her childhood in Himachal Pradesh. She grew up with her elder sister, Rangoli, who later became her manager, and her younger brother, Akshat. By now, you must have guessed, we’re talking about Kangana Ranaut.
Ranaut started her career as a model while living in Delhi before joining the Asmita Theatre Group. She trained under renowned director Arvind Gaur before making her Bollywood debut in Anurag Basu’s Gangster (2006), which made her an overnight star. She won several awards for Best Debut Actress. She was just 17 at that time.
In 2009, Kangana won a National Film Award for her powerful performance in Fashion. She later delivered blockbusters like Queen, Tanu Weds Manu, and Manikarnika. Over the years, she has won numerous accolades, including four National Film Awards and four Filmfare Awards.
Forbes India has featured her in its Celebrity 100 list six times. In 2020, the Indian government honoured her with the Padma Shri. In June 2024, she was elected as a Lok Sabha MP from Mandi. Even after entering politics, she continues to work in both acting and directing.
However, her latest film Emergency, released this year, failed at the box office. Before that, Tejas, Dhaakad, Chandramukhi 2, Thalaivi, Panga, and Judgementall Hai Kya also flopped. In 2022, she hosted the reality show Lock Upp that got mixed reviews.

During her nomination for the Lok Sabha elections last year, Kangana disclosed her assets. She owns a net worth stands at Rs 91 crore, with liabilities amounting to Rs 17 crore. According to an Indian Express report, Rs 28.7 crore is her movable assets and Rs 62.9 crore in immovable assets. Her real estate investments are her three houses in Mumbai worth a total of Rs 16 crore. It’s a luxurious bungalow in Manali valued at Rs 15 crore, and multiple properties in Chandigarh.
