Over the years, several heart-touching films have been made in the Bollywood industry. While some conveyed social messages, others showcased emotional bonds between individuals. One such film is director Advait Chandan’s emotional masterpiece, which beautifully highlights the bond between a mother and daughter. Released in 2017, the film created a buzz in the entertainment industry. Along with depicting an emotional bond, the movie also focused on domestic violence and the atrocities a woman endures when married to an abusive man.

While the movie is primarily a coming-of-age story about a teenage girl aspiring to be a singer, it also addresses significant social issues, including feminism, gender equality, and domestic violence. According to reports, the movie was made on a budget of Rs 15 crores, and due to its intriguing storyline, it went on to gross Rs 900 crores worldwide.
Additionally, the film received immense praise and numerous accolades. Secret Superstar earned ten nominations at the 63rd Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Director for Chandan, Best Actress for Wasim, and Best Supporting Actor for Khan. The film went on to win three awards, including Best Actress (Critics) for Wasim and Best Supporting Actress for Vij. Zaira Wasim also received the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement for her performance.
While the movie turned out to be a massive success, Secret Superstar was Zaira Wasim’s second-to-last film before she left the industry. After Secret Superstar, Zaira starred in The Sky is Pink, alongside Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra, and Rohit Saraf. Throughout her brief acting career, Zaira appeared in only three films, all of which were blockbusters. Zaira made her debut with Aamir Khan in Dangal. All three films brought her fame and awards, but despite a successful career, the actress decided never to return to the glitz and glamour of the industry.
In 2019, Zaira announced her retirement, citing that her faith was being threatened by Bollywood. The actress stated that the industry was interfering with her religious beliefs and that she was no longer happy with her work. Zaira Wasim recently launched a women-only platform called Sustenance Community. She introduced the initiative on Instagram, describing it as a space for women to connect, grow, and express their creativity.
