The movie was produced by Aamir Khan, and it was so heart-touching that it not only won over audiences in India but in China as well. This is one such film that Aamir Khan not only produced but also acted in. However, the actor did not feature as the lead but had a supporting role. If you are wondering which movie this is, it’s Secret Superstar.
Did you know that Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar went on to earn a whopping Rs 800 crore in China? The movie broke all records in China during the fifth week of its release. Explaining why the film became a huge hit among audiences in China, Aamir said that China’s emotional tone is very similar to that of India, which is the primary reason the movie resonated so well there. The actor explained, “China’s emotional tone is very much like ours. Hence, our stories touch them. I’m sure there are many Chinese films we haven’t seen but are similar in nature. Things like emotions, family values, and culture appeal to them.”
Kiran Rao, who co-produced the film along with her ex-husband Aamir Khan, said, “We are so proud of the film. We made it with a lot of love, and people enjoyed it. But we really didn’t expect it to be so well-received in China. People were getting so emotionally attached to the film, laughing and crying with it. We are touched.”
After Secret Superstar, Zaira Wasim featured in just one more film, The Sky is Pink. Later, the actress left the industry, citing that she wanted to focus on her religion. Zaira starred in only three films—Dangal, Secret Superstar, and The Sky is Pink. All three films were loved by audiences.
Apart from Aamir Khan, the movie also featured Zaira Wasim, Meher Vij, and Raj Arjun in key roles. The movie was based on the life of a teenage girl (Zaira Wasim) who belonged to an orthodox family with an aggressive father (Raj Arjun), yet she dared to dream of becoming a singer. In this journey, her mother (Meher Vij) becomes her confidant and helps her pursue her dreams. The movie is an emotional and gripping tale of struggle, the fight for freedom, and following one’s dreams. The mother-daughter relationship shown in the film is deeply touching and can leave anyone teary-eyed.
