Romantic films are always loved by the audience. But when those romantic movies blend with tragedies and still conclude beautifully, they are bound to break records. Similarly, when this film was released, it became an instant hit. It has been 19 years since its release, yet people still love to watch it. The movie featured Shahid Kapoor in the lead and was a blockbuster hit.
The movie was made on a budget of Rs 8 crore and went on to earn six times more than its budget. Some of its songs are still played at weddings. The movie was released in 2006 and during Shahid Kapoor was establishing himself in the industry.
The movie was a commercial success. Made on a budget of just Rs 8 crore, it earned an overall Rs 50 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. With this massive success, the movie was included in the list of iconic films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun!, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Maine Pyar Kiya, and more.
The storyline of the film revolves around a beautiful girl, Poonam (played by Amrita Rao), who, despite being an orphan, is deeply loved by her foster father. She later gets engaged to a decent man, Prem (played by Shahid Kapoor). However, tragedy strikes when Poonam suffers severe burns in an accident. Despite her injuries, Prem’s love for Poonam remains unwavering, and the couple ties the knot in a hospital ward.
Vivaah was a superhit film and a turning point in the careers of both Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao.
