After pandemic, the era of mega budget-films began and blockbusters like RRR, KGF Chapter 2, and Pathaan made a tremendous business at the box office. However, the industry has repeatedly shown even high-budget films cannot guarantee success. The failure of one such film served as stark reminder of this reality.
The film we are talking about is 2023-releaed Ganapath. Helmed by Vikas Bahl, the sci-fi thriller starred Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon and Amitabh Bachchan in pivotal roles. The film proved to be a disappointment for Vikash Bahl, especially who’s renowned for directing superhit films like Queen, Hansi Toh Phasee and Udta Punjab.
Ganapath was made in a budget of Rs 200 crore and managed to earn just Rs 13.38 at the box office. The movie was originally planned to be a two-part film, however the plans were dropped after it failed terribly at the box office.

Vikas Bahl’s direction struggled to create emotional highs or compelling moments. He once admitted in an interview that he was unable to understand in which direction the story of Ganapath was leading. He revealed that every second of this film’s journey he felt ‘why did I get into’ as he could have stayed in his comfort zone.
The film was announced in November 2020 and underwent a long pre-production stage. The shoot got over in Feburary 2023 and was released in October, same year. The film couldn’t recovered half of its budget and managed to earn just Rs 7 crore in its opening weekend.
Moreover, both critics and audiences panned the film, leading to its dismal start at the box office. The action sequences and songs weren’t enough to save the film. Despite a star-studded cast, Ganapath suffered a commercial failure due to its weak story and lackluster execution.
