Shah Rukh Khan is one of the most magnificent actors that Hindi cinema has ever produced. Even at the age of 59, King Khan knows how to make people fall in love with his charisma and oh-so-dashing personality. He has undoubtedly given us many films that we love to watch on repeat. One of his films that is considered audience favourite till date is Swades.
Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Swades is not just a film but a journey of homecoming and a call to reconnect with your roots. Despite being one of Shah Rukh Khan’s best movies, Swades failed to perform well at the box office. Made in a budget of Rs 22 crore, the film managed to earn just Rs 16 crore in India.

Bankrolled by Ronnie Screwvala, Swades is about Mohan Bhargava (Shah Rukh Khan) who discovers his love for his own country. While the film was a financial failure for its producers, modern audiences can’t help but express their gratitude to the creators and SRK, as it now stands among his cult classics.
Swades also starred Gayatri Joshi as Geeta, an idealistic teacher and SRK’s love interest in the film. Despite a successful debut, Gayatri quit acting shortly as she decided to marry and settle down.
The music and background score of Swades was composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar. Songs like like ‘Yeh Tara Woh Tara’ and ‘Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera’ continue to touch hearts across generations. Despite being a box office office flop, Swades reportedly won 18 awards. Shah Rukh Khan won Best Actor award for his spectacular acting and A.R. Rahman won Best Background score award for his tremendous music composition and execution.
