The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has written to the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists demanding an emergency meeting over why the organisation
reinstated Dileep, who has been accused of abduction and sexual harassment of a Malayalam actor in February last year. Ever since Dileep was reinstated in the association, there has been a huge outcry in the film fraternity. This has even led to the resignation of four female actors Remya Nambeesan, Geethu Mohandas, and Rima Kallingal resigned from AMMA. The victim had earlier mentioned in a statement that there is no purpose in continuing in the organisation. Also Read - Quit AMMA on my own, claims actor Dileep

Condemning the decision, WCC has written a letter where they have demanded an explanation on why the organisation decided on getting Dileep back. In WCC’s letter to the AMMA, they have written how their decision has left the WCC members in shock. In the letter, they have even mentioned the points that will be discussed. Here is what it says, “We request for the same to be called so that we may participate, discuss & understand:
1. The expelled member’s reinstatement & the implications of AMMA’s decision.
2. The steps taken by AMMA to support the survivor.
3. How AMMAs bye-laws are structured to ensure welfare of all its members.
4. What AMMA can do to make women feel more included and safe.” Also Read - Dileep's resignation from AMMA has been accepted, says Mohanlal

Dileep was reinstated as a member of AMMA right after Mohanlal was sworn in as the new President of AMMA. The latter was also slammed for endorsing the accused. This made the public believe that the guild is with the accused and has no concern for the safety of working women in the film industry. On July 11 last year, Dileep was removed from AMMA due to his alleged involvement in the Malayalam actress’s abduction and rape case. According to reports, senior actors decided to take Dileep back in the body while several members of WCC stayed away from the meeting. Apart from these, the younger lot of actors comprising of Nivin Pauly, Tovino and Prithviraj stayed away from the first meeting.
