Ernakulam: A court in Ernakulam, India, froze the bank accounts of the producers behind the hit film “Manjummel Boys“ this weekend. Despite its record-breaking success as the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever and one of India’s biggest hits this year, Manjummel Boys is facing legal challenges. The action follows a complaint filed by a resident of Aroor. Read on to find more details.
In a recent court case, Siraj Valiyathara claimed he invested 7 crore rupees in the Malayalam film “Manjummel Boys” with the understanding he would receive 40% of the profits. He filed a petition against the film’s producers, Parava Films and Shawn Antony, alleging they failed to uphold their end of the deal. Following the petition, Judge Sunil Varkey froze the producers’ bank accounts.
Siraj alleged in his court filing that the producers breached their agreement and failed to deliver any of the promised funds. However, it is important to note that there has been no official announcement from the makers of the film, regarding the legal matters. It seems that the producers of the film are planning to keep the matters tightly wrapped under the sheets.
Made with a reported budget of just Rs 20 crore, the Malayalam film “Manjummel Boys” became a historic blockbuster. Released in February 2024, the survival thriller starring Sreenath Bhasi and Soubin Shahir crossed the Rs 200 crore mark by March, making it the first Malayalam film to achieve this feat. The movie was particularly well-received by audiences in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The film was widely appreciated by multiple films from the Tamil and Malayalam film fraternity. The film was a huge success in the Telugu film industry as well. The film smashed the previous records of Nivin Pauly’s Premam record of collection in the Telugu film market After a thunderous response after the release of the film, the survival thriller is soo expected for an OTT release in the first week of May. It is also speculated that Manjummel Boys will be released on Disney Plus Hotstar.
