Bollywood has seen many veteran actors who continue to hold a special place in the hearts of audiences. Today, we’ll talk about one such legendary actor who may no longer be with us, yet his films, characters and songs is fondly remembered by fans. We’re referring to the veteran actor Nazir Hussain who died in October 1987 at the age of 65.

Nazir Hussain is considered the ‘Pitamah of Bhojpuri Cinema’ and has worked in over 500 films. In the career spanning over 30 years, the actor worked with many superstars such as Dev Anand, Ashok Kumar, Guru Dutt, Amitabh Bachchan, and Dharmendra, among others. Some popular actresses like Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Wahida Rehman, Asha Parekh, Mumtaz, Hema Malini, and Rekha were known for playing Nazir Hussain’s on-screen daughters.

From 1950 to 1970, Nazir Hussain starred in many superhits including ‘Parineeta’, ‘Jeevan Jyoti’, ‘Musafir’, ‘Anuradha’, ‘Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam’, ‘Naya Daur’, ‘Kati Patang’, and ‘Kashmir Ki Kali.’ Before entering the film industry, he worked as a fireman in railways. He also joined the British Army during World War II and became a prisoner of war.

Did you know? Nazir Hussain is referred to as the father of Bhojpuri cinema. He was the first person who initiated the possibility of Bhojpuri cinema. He made the first Bhojpuri film in ‘Ganga Maiyya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo’ which was released in 1963. Moreover, he is still renowned for his superhit Bhojpuri film ‘Balam Pardesia’ in the late 1970s.
