Rajiv currently appears on Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show, impressing audience with his hilarious performances. Recently, he opened up about his turbulent childhood, revealing the struggles his family faced due to poverty. His father who used to run a thread factory, suffered massive loss after a devastating fire destroyed his machinery during a week-long rainstorm in their hometown. “My father’s struggle began after my birth. The day I was born, it rained continuously for 7 days. It was in Amritsar and I was born on Saturday. Hamara karkhana tha dhaage ka, all the machines burnt.” Thakur said.
He recalled the challenging days of living in a small 1 BHK house, “We suddenly shifted to one room. In that, it was our bedroom, bathroom, drawing room. We lived there.” Rajiv said.
Rajiv also spoke about the tough times he endured while growing up, including being beaten by his father with a belt. However, he look back on those moments with a humour, “At that time, I used to feel sad but not anymore. Now, I take it as a joke. Imagine it rained for 7 days. I have two sisters aur saari balaye maine le li. Bhagwan ne paida aisa kiya hai, jahan bhi jayega kuch toh dhamaaka karega.” Rajiv added.
Despite his tough childhood, Rajiv believes that he is a lucky mascot for those around him. He gave an example of his friend, fellow comedian Kapil Sharma. “I am lucky for others. You see, Kapil mera dost hai.” Parmeet Sethi, Archana Puran Singh’s husband was touched by Rajiv’s sincerity, hugged him and said, “You are also my best friend.”
Over the years, with his constant hard work and dedication, Rajiv Thakur has earned a decent amount of wealth. Reportedly, the actor charges Rs 6 lakh per episode of The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show. Besides that, he boasts a staggering net worth of Rs 10-12 crore.
