Aruna Irani is an Indian actress who has appeared in over 500 films across Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, and Gujarati cinema. The actress once shared a surprising anecdote about the time she worked with superstars Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. Aruna worked with Big B in couple of films, however their most memorable film together was Bombay To Goa, released in 1971. In an earlier interview, the actress revealed that Amitabh was an ‘aloof’ man and never used to get friendly with anyone on sets.
While speaking to Zoom TV, she said, “Amit ji used to stay aloof from the very beginning. He used to just spend time in how own room or his vanity van. I have never seen him get friendly with anyone.” Besides talking about Amitabh Bachchan, she also spoke about Rajesh Khanna and called him a very ‘good actor.’
Aruna said, “Rajesh Khanna was a good actor. He was very good to me. People used to get scared of him a lot. But I did not. He used to call me ‘ben’. He used to be like ‘aye ben, chalo khana khaane. Time hogaya.”
Aruna Irani began her Bollywood career as a child artist in Gunga Jumna. She later played Mala Sinha’s childhood character in Anpadh and went to play several supporting roles as child actor. As she grew up, she worked alongside several superstars and starred in blockbusters like Beta, Kartavya, Suhaag, Sargam, and more. Despite playing mostly supporting roles, she is still one of the most prominent figures in Indian cinema.
When Aruna was at the peak of her career, she was rumoured to be in a relationship with a married star Mehmood. The speculations not just affected her career but also spoiled her relationship completely. Years later, she denied the rumours and stated that Mehmood was her mentor, and that ‘they were just good friends.’
Later, Aruna surprised everyone when she secretly got married to director Kuku Kohli and became his second wife. Sharing why she kept her marriage a secret, Aruna revealed, “I didn’t tell anyone about our marriage because he was a married man. I don’t know where this stupid news came from that I was not aware of his first marriage. His wife would come on the sets along with the kids. I knew about it. It was a tough decision to make. Somehow we got married. It was not a right decision for us to not have kids. But he fought the world to marry me.”
