We are talking about one of the most popular actresses in the television industry, who is known for both acting skills and stunning looks. Born in 1990, in a middle-class family, she completed her schooling and degree in Mass Communication before pursuing acting. She began her acting career when she was 14 with the show Kaali – Ek Agnipariksha, where she played the character of Anu, a role that garnered attention from the audience. Her major breakthrough came in 2011 with Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, which transformed her career. She further rose to fame with her portrayal of Roshni Patel in Jamai Raja, a role that brought her immense popularity. Now, you must have guessed whom are we talking about.’
Nia Sharma was once called the “ugliest celebrity” by a Twitter user, who also claimed she was overrated and had a strong PR team. However, Nia smartly replied, “I have no PR team to this day, babe! I’m a natural, I guess.” Many fans supported her at the time.
Despite this harsh criticism, Nia proved her haters wrong by ranking 3rd in 2016 and 2nd in 2017 on the Top 50 Sexiest Asian Women list by the British newspaper Eastern Eye, even beating big Bollywood stars like Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone.
In an interview, Nia talked about her father’s passing when she was just 14 years old. She told Zoom TV that it was the hardest time of her life. She recalled how her father struggled to teach her mathematics and always prayed she would get good marks, but she never did. She also remembered the family vacations he took them on.
After her father’s death, her family faced many struggles. Her brother started working at a young age to support them, and her mother gave up everything, including her relatives in Delhi, to focus on raising Nia and her brother. Nia shared that her mother always supported her, telling her, “As long as you are right, do whatever you want. Wear whatever you like and wear it with confidence.”
Nia also opened up about the struggles she faced in the early days of her career. She revealed that she often had to fight to get paid for her work. Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, she said, “You work so hard, but then you have to beg for your payments. I have been through this and had to fight ugly battles. I would stand outside the studio and say, ‘Until I get paid, I won’t work.’ It might have seemed childish, but that was the only way I could get my payment. Many of us have been made to beg, cry, and plead for our money.”
Apart from her success on Eastern Eye’s list, Nia also ranked 2nd in The Times Most Desirable Women on TV list in 2020. Despite all the challenges, she has carved a successful place for herself in the industry.
